Doordash

August 2021 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

I enjoyed driving around LA! I live In LA for many years but never really explored outside of my area. I really enjoyed seeing new sites and new faces, I also like being able to come up with my own work schedule!

What I wish was different

I wish that I started before covid hit, obviously I was (and still) taking safety precaution when it comes to dashing but I do wish I had started before covid hit.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share about my experience with doordash is to have Patience, there will be some rude people you come across but they're are many nice people you'll come across also!

Delivery Driver

January 2021 • Omaha, NE

What I liked

On my own schedule any time I want, as long as it is busy enough I am allowed to work.

What I wish was different

More pay per miles driven, less reading on my phone while driving.

Advice

Learn to know which orders to accept and deny, as you’re an independent contractor and you know which orders are worth your own time.

Food Delivery driver

June 2020 • Indianapolis, IN

What I liked

I love going to places I’ve never seen before! This includes restaurants and neighborhoods. I also love the tips that motivate me to keep going. I’ve made pretty good money since I’ve worked at it so much. It has allowed me to buy my textbooks and some of my tuition! Most importantly, I love that I’m on my own schedule; I’m able to DoorDash whenever I’m available, which is really helpful when working around homework!

What I wish was different

I wish I felt safer at all times, but for the most part, I feel pretty safe. Sometimes I just get nervous going out alone as a young girl. I also wish everyone tipped; I think it’s rude when people tip nothing after the hard work and gas I put in.

Advice

I would advise to keep in contact with your customers! I’ve noticed that when I texted my customers, whether I’m going to be late or not, they tend to increase their tip. Most of them like hearing updates on their order. I would also highly advise not to waste time on low-paying orders. For instance, if an offer comes up for $3 and the distance is long, definitely decline.

Absolutely give doordashing a shot, just don't do it in Cedar Rapids because I don't want you stealing my business.

Driver

August 2020 • Pleasanton, CA

What I liked

I mainly enjoyed the flexible schedule and often generous tips.

What I wish was different

I wish the pay were a bit higher since deliveries are sometimes only $2-3 if the customer does not tip. I also spent a lot on gas and wish I actively kept better track of my miles for tax purposes.

Advice

I would not have Doordash as your main source of income. It is meant to be a flexible side gig.

What I liked

I loved picking up and delivering food to customers.

What I wish was different
