Workplace Consulting Intern

June - August 2020 • Durham, NC

What I liked

It was a very hands-on experience where I was put directly into the day-to-day projects and meetings with the full time employees. The people at Fidelity are so friendly and welcoming and really wanted to help me have the best experience possible.

What I wish was different

Some of the tasks were tedious and kind of boring. Being a virtual internship, it was kind of difficult to fully immerse myself and meet everyone I wanted to meet.

Advice

Don't be afraid to reach out and ask questions. Your employer wants you to learn and have a good experience.

Software Development Intern

June - July 2020 • Smithfield, RI

What I liked

I really liked how the company handled the virtual internship, and they still provided us with networking opportunities and encouraged us to meet with company leaders and share our experiences.

What I wish was different

My mentor ended up taking a lot of paid vacation time during my internship. I wish he had set me up with other team members for more projects so that when he wasn't there. However, it ended up working out well, because I worked with other team members and shadowed them on projects that were pretty far out of my comfort zone and learned a lot.

Advice

Its so important to branch out of your comfort zone and network. I spoke to a VP of Fidelity during my internship, and it was a great conversation and she gave me some really awesome life advice. If the company wants you, they will invest in you. This can come in the form of hosting seminars, having leaders take time to meet with you, and a paycheck. However, at the end of the day, I had to make sure that they would want me to work for them, which included being a good team member, doing good work, and being willing to take on projects.

Customer Service Representative Intern

June - August 2021 • Salt Lake City, UT

What I liked

I liked how nice everyone was and how willing they were to help out the interns. I also enjoyed that we weren't just given busy work and were able to work on different projects that would help benefit the company.

What I wish was different

I wish they had more job opportunities at the SLC branch. The only entry-level job they had was a customer service rep and I was just not interested in that or the possible positions following it at all. The only reason I wasn't asked to come back was because I made it abundantly clear to my manager that I wouldn't be interested.

Advice

Make sure you're prepared to be bombarded with financial information in a short amount of time and be aware that this is a customer service job, meaning you'll be doing phone calls for a good chunk of your day after training's over. You do, however, get to work on a project, so I would also recommend taking it seriously because the higher-ups will take your advice into consideration.

Customer Relationship Advocate

What I liked

I loved and currently love how attentive, diligent, and ambitious the culture at Fidelity truly is. Everyone, from Regional Managers, to Sales, to my co-workers, and my supervisors, is so kind and transparent about wanting you to succeed and/or move up in the company. I especially enjoyed how not toxic and professional everyone was. Being that it is a private company, it takes away a lot of stress from the bottom line to just "make money." Fidelity truly wants what is best for not only its customers, but its employees as well! Also, can't complain with some of the best benefits in the industry.

What I wish was different

I wish I had heard about this job earlier and that I could have prepared better for it. Specifically about the experience working there, I have no complaints or regrets whatsoever.

Advice

If you are in college or simply someone without much financial experience, I definitely recommend taking a few classes or simply doing personal research about financial products, language, legal information, etc. I say this because not only will it make your life easier, but you will truly slip right into the company with ease if you have a well-versed knowledge of the financial world. That being said, you definitely do not need to be an expert in finance by any means!

Stock Broker

June 2021 • Salt Lake City, UT

What I liked

I loved getting the series 7 and 63. Fidelity paid me during the licensing process and paid for the test fees and registration fees for all the states+territories

What I wish was different

It was mostly online due to Covid. It was great bonding with my coworkers but I wish it wasn’t a Covid year and more could have been experienced first hand in person. It’s a lot of information really fast so you must stay on top of it. It will dominate your summer to get licensed but it’s worth it

Advice

Getting those licenses is hard. But once you pass fidelity takes great care of you. Great pay, bonus, schedule flexibility, benefits like 401k match, HSA contribution, insurances, mental health care, PTO, education benefits

What I liked

I loved being put in a licensing program where I felt people definitely had my best interest. Motivating and being there to help support me during a really intense time studying for my series licenses I don’t think I would have been able to go through it without their constant support and reassurance.

What I wish was different

Nothing, I honestly just wish I could have started sooner!

Advice

It’s a really hard and long process and there was a lot of excitement and a lot of stress but once you get through it and stay confident with your self it’s extremely rewarding.

What I wish was different
