Veterinary Emergency Group

Veterinary Assistant

May - September 2021 • White Plains, NY

What I liked

During my time at Veterinary Emergency Group, I enjoyed the open floor plan and doctors' island in the middle of the facility. It was incredibly easy to assist doctors and technicians during an emergency, and help with various activities such as blood work, x-rays, and placement of IV catheters.

What I wish was different

I wish I had gotten more experience in proper restraint in the time I interned, but everyone there was generally very willing to help new assistants. It comes with a lot of practice.

One piece of advice I would share about this experience is to not be shy! Articulate any weaknesses or areas that you are less than confident in when carrying out your job in order to improve yourself and transform yourself into a better intern. Also, getting to know coworkers and managers will increase your knowledge of the field.
