The boss is awesome. Very very very knowledgeable and full of wisdom in the world of Machining and CNC Code Writing. Matthew literally seems like he knows everything and even though I've just started here he has told me and I believe him that he can teach me everything I wish to know.
I also really like the fact that they machine a lot of medical equipment for the medical industry. That's always a plus because you're giving back to something that's a good cause. Another thing I'm really liking is a lot of their contracts are very long. That means you don't have to do a lot of setup procedures, you don't have to do a lot of different code writing once you do learn the code which I still have to learn and you know what you're going to run into pretty much every single day.
It also is a smaller shop but considering how small they are the contracts they take on are fairly big I have to say.
It's literally just me, the boss and one other person. I like that because I can get the attention I need from the boss to train me and it's just less people to deal with which is always a plus in my book.
My coworker is a great person as well.
I literally have no complaints about this place so far. If it keeps going like this I will wind up here forever. I highly highly highly recommend this job if you get an offer from them they are awesome.
What I wish was different
I wouldn't change anything so far to be honest.
Advice
Be honest about your experience and your know-how within the Machining world. Don't over exaggerate what you know. You literally can learn everything you want to know here if you're honest, patient and willing to learn.
This is a place where you can literally soak up as much information as you want and have a great work environment simultaneously.
What more could you want?
Not all machine shops are the same there's a lot of machine shops I think, and I have experienced one of them but I'm not going to say who they are, that don't have great machines, don't have great tooling, are out of date and maybe ran by people that don't really want to change those things because they've either been in the industry so long that they don't really care as much or some other reason.
It's extremely important that you find the work environment that suits you.
If you like a place with a small group of people in a machine shop that is small to medium but takes on pretty big contracts then places like adept manufacturing and gauging are definitely what you want to aim for.
For somebody like me this is the perfect place.
I think it's extremely important though that you're honest about your intentions and your experience.
Employers like that especially within the Machining world. It's not a place where you can really exaggerate what you know without making mistakes that cost money. You don't want to do that.
