I enjoy working with the band members and making sure the band runs smoothly.
What I wish was different
I wish that there were more organization systems in place. For my job, I had to re-create all of the organization methods and sheets for the instruments and uniforms used.
Advice
Make sure you can handle what is being asked of you before you accept it.

Office Assistant
May 2019 • Adrian, MI
What I liked
I enjoyed the connections that I made on my campus. This was a really important aspect of my job, being able to communicate with people in all sorts of positions, on and off campus. My supervisors are really great to work for, and I'm continuing to learn a lot about my school.
What I wish was different
Unfortunately, I had gotten really sick at the beginning of the summer so I had to take quite a but of work off to get better. That was hard, and I felt behind for a little while. I caught up eventually. Everyone was really understanding.
Advice
The one piece of advice I would give to anyone going into the positions I held is to ask a lot of questions. This is crucial to making sure that you're doing the job correctly. I would rather ask a lot of questions than have to re-do a job I just spent a lot of time on.

Academic Affairs Office Worker
May - August 2018 • Adrian, MI
What I liked
The connections I made with the administration and the knowledge I gained on how an institution like Adrian College functions. I also refined my skills at helping coordinate and oversee the execution of events.
What I wish was different
The hours were limited to how our budget functioned. Therefore we could only work a set number of hours and no more. During certain times when there was a lot to be done we could have stayed over office hours to get a project completed if it were not for this stipulation.
Advice
It pays to over-plan rather than under-plan when dealing with many different parties. The cooperation of faculty, staff, parents, and prospective students all widely vary, which makes plans B through E a crucial.
