What I liked

I loved spending time with my campers and Co-counselors and building relationships. All while spreading the Gospel.

What I wish was different

I wish a few policies and leadership styles were a little different.

Advice

Get ready for a wild summer. You will be tired, physically and emotionally, but the reward is great. It is the hardest job you’re ever going to love.

Camp Counselor

May - August 2019 • Rocksprings, TX

What I liked

I really enjoyed the environment: the other counselors, the campers, and getting to spend everyday in God's creation, climbing, rappelling, swimming, or even just soaking in the view after a long hike. It was such a tangible ministry, with campers being saved and getting to see just how greatly God was moving in and around us.

What I wish was different

This summer we did not train all the counselors to be lifeguards, unlike the previous years. I believe we are training them this summer again, and I think that's best because we will certainly have a solid number of lifeguards, as well as campers willing to listen because their names will be known by them.

Advice

One piece of advice would be what my Program Head gave to me when I worked at Headwaters (ages 6-13) in the summer of 2018: It is what you make it. Camp is hard. But the rewards far outweigh the costs because you get to wake up everyday and know that God is using you to shine light and pour love into the lives of countless peers. If you believe it will be life-changing, fun, adventurous, silly, exciting, awe-inspiring, and worth it, it will be.

What I liked

It was amazing. I got to work with kids and just see their love for Christ and for each other grow. It was amazing to just constantly be surrounded both by nature and an instant and constant uplifting community.

What I wish was different

Everything was great. I honestly wish I got to be out there longer.

Advice

Be ready to have your life changed in ways you never thought it could.

Teen Camp Counselor

May - August 2018 • Rocksprings, TX

What I liked

I loved everything about this job. I got to spent time with different campers each week which was a challenge especially working with teenagers but its all worth it once you get to know them. Its a life-changing experience. I got to do a lot of cool and fun activities like mountain bike, rock climbing, zip lining the longest zip line in Texas (3000ft long), kayaking, rappelling, swimming, super swing, and the list goes on and on. I got to spend some quality time with God, serving God through loving the campers. Working at camp eagle has been the best summer experience I've ever had.

What I wish was different

Each year is different because they have different themes. This makes the experience even better. It's simply perfect to me.

Advice

Your whole life will definately change in the best way possible.

EVERYTHING

What I wish was different

Possibly higher pay but still worth every minute spent and tear shed at the salary they give you.

Advice

Do not apply to be a counselor if you don't have a servant's heart and if your not truly hardworking.
