Camp Counselor

June 2019 • Northern Arizona University, AZ

What I liked

Camp Kesem is a nationwide organization that supports children through and beyond their parents cancer. This camp for children ages 6yrs -18yrs is a fun filled, stress free and empowering week of camp at no cost to the parents. The opportunity to directly help the kids to laugh, create happy memories, connect with others, feel understood and become stronger continues beyond just the one week at camp but rather lasts for a lifetime. As a camp counselor I was able to be a leader, coach, comedian, mentor, friend and more importantly learned to become a better version of myself. Camp Kesem is family; Stronger Together-Stronger Forever!

What I wish was different

That I knew about this organization in the beginning of my college years. That there would be more support given by the university. I believe with Northern Arizona University’s full backing and financial support we would be able to help more children and have one of the top successful programs of our country.

Advice

Camp Kesem is truly an unforgettable and life-changing experience for everyone involved! Talk to any of my co-Counselors and nearly every one will say that they get more out of Camp Kesem than they give. I believe every college student however much they can should volunteer for this amazing organization.

Counselor

July 2018 • Tempe, AZ

What I liked

I loved being able to work with kids and gain leadership skills by being in charge of a cabin. I worked with teens, which allowed me to be a mentor to younger individuals and act as a role model.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more ability to learn about what was going on behind the scenes and how everything was organized from a corporate / exec board level.

Advice

Don't be afraid to act as a leader and take on new challenges to inspire others!
