What I liked

Loved the environment, it was in the most beautiful area in the Santa Monica mountains. I loved the managers and my coworkers and the way they shielded counselors from having to deal with parent complaints. Fantastic hours also, 9-3ish Monday through Friday provides a lot of hours and a reliable schedule with weekends and afternoons always off.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been more ability to take breaks. Even though they offered lunch breaks and said you could take ten minute breaks, the way it was structured with just you and one other counselor with 10+ children under your watch to be supervised and entertained all day, it was just not possible to actually take any breaks.

Advice

I would definitely say do it, it is a great way to stay active and outdoors and gain a ton of experience in teamwork, leadership, mediation, and safety. Definitely a fantastic opportunity to majorly develop soft skills with having to navigate drama amongst diverse groups of kids, rely heavily on your alternating co counselor, and be entirely in charge of planning and problem solving.

What I liked

I loved being able to help kids who I felt like I could relate too. When I was younger I feel Like I so desperately needed someone like that, so I hope that my experiences from my past can help kids now.

What I wish was different

I didn’t like how the camp was run this year but the kids made it worth it

Advice

Interestingly enough it wasn’t related to my job. I had been talking to my boss about golf, the sport I play. He told me, “when preparation meets an opportunity, it will equal success
