Camp Winnebago

About Camp Winnebago

Camp Winnebago is located in the scenic bluff lands of southeast Minnesota and operates a residential camp during the summer months that serves special needs clients, some children but mostly adults.

Our camp sessions run 5 days and 4 nights weekly (Mon-Fri) from early/mid-June to early/mid-August. We hire up to 30 staff members per season as: Counselors, Program Leads in the areas of (Aquatics, Nature & Tenting, Arts & Crafts and Music & Drama), Cabin Leads, TMA's/Health Clerks, Nurse(s), Kitchen staff, and Housecleaning. Most positions are paid a weekly stipend plus food and housing are provided.

The philosophy of Camp Winnebago is to provide a positive experience in a natural environment where our clients can further their psychological, physical, intellectual, and mental development.

We will strive to…
• See that each camper is challenged to think about his/her own interests and participate in activities
• Nurture good self-concept and good self-esteem for all, regardless of ability
• Establish a genuine love of nature, appreciation and tolerance of others, and an interest in a wide range of leisure activities

Most positions require direct interaction with campers who have a wide range of abilities, including personal care. A background check will be required of all staff. Previous experience a plus but will train. Counselors, TMA's and Leads live on site during the week and have weekends off and get the entire week of 4th of July off.

Though these positions are demanding and challenging the personal rewards and experiences are equally as great with many staff returning year after year.

“I got paid to go backpacking- it doesn't get a whole lot better than that. It was fun to plan the trips and teach the boys how to pack their gear. On the trail, I had a good time leading the lads through the wilderness. ”
