Casa is a very special place. I loved the ability to connect with liked-minded individuals and provide a safe and loving space for children to grow and learn. I loved learning new things from the other house parents and from the kids. It was a beautiful experience to be able to care for such vulnerable children and grow myself.
What I wish was different
Honestly not much. I really loved my time in Houston. I will say, if anything it can be emotionally taxing. It is a very hard job to work in foster care and care for such vulnerable children, so the emotional side of it can be challenging.
Advice
I would suggest to remain very open-minded and willing to learn. This place is full of opportunity and it's a beautiful way to learn more about so many things, including yourself.

What I liked
The neighborhood is nice, and I love having the opportunity to care or kids, no matter how temporary. Also, while you’re there, you can make some amazing friendships and connections.
What I wish was different
There is some isolation, as the residential program is within one neighborhood. So, especially if you don’t know anyone in Houston, it can be difficult to get out, when you have free time.
Advice
This job involves living with kids that have been through a lot. So, not only does it involve being with kids full time, but it can also involve really intense issues/situations.
