What I liked

I liked how personable and close-knit my office was. I also enjoyed the different perspectives I engaged with. I worked in the Mayor's Office of Film & Entertainment so it allowed me to learn more about the entertainment industry from a government standpoint. I assisted with numerous activations for the City and helped put on numerous events.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have had a chance to engage with more departments within City Hall.

Advice

If anyone is interested in this experience, it is important to learn how to prioritize and be organized. Being in an office work space requires attention to detail.

What I liked

The staff is extremely pliable with your school schedule and make sure you get paid for all services provided for the City.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have actually been placed within the department of my major, but spots are limited and the internship cannot control which departments accept interns.

Advice

I would definitely recommend another student to stay up to date with everything and respond promptly to emails. Also, any concerns you have, ask questions. They HR department will help with anything needed.

What I liked

I loved how hands on the experience was. You really get to see how the City of Atlanta produces content. Whether it be in the form of video, or content for their social media platform, it’s a really great learning experience. Also, the networking opportunities are amazing. I got to meet the Mayor of Atlanta and everything.

What I wish was different

I wish the way they trained us had been different. Instead of formally learning the software and techniques they have in place, you really had to grasp the concepts in real time as it was happening. Can seem rushed, but you just have to be ready.

Advice

Don’t EVER be afraid to ask questions. People can get a better gauge for your interest in what’s going on by the questions you ask. It shows genuine concern for what’s at stake, and they’ll know who they can trust to carry out harder projects because you’re now equipped with the necessary knowledge.
