It was a great experience, I received CPR & Powerboating training.
What I wish was different
The diversity training should’ve been more informative and interactive.
Advice
Find the right recreation center before truly deciding, I don’t regret the experience but it wasn’t exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a job more catered to working with youth but instead I was working more with boats.

Mayoral Internship

What I liked
I like a variety of different things, but I most enjoyed getting a glimpse of what local government looks at. Many times we undermine how hard our local representatives work and sometimes even blame them for being "insufficient". However, I learned that this was not the case at all. I really enjoyed seeing that there many individuals who really are advocating for change and support communities of color.
What I wish was different
If I could change something about the internship, I would suggest creating a task list for interns to tackle.
Advice
It is very important to not take things too personal. In such chaotic environment, people are constantly on the move and many times you will also be targeted by the community as being "brain washed" or "gentrified". It is important to stand your ground and carry yourself with confidence.
