Assistant Researcher

May - August 2020 • Colorado Springs, CO

What I liked

We were working on a topic in physics that was new to me and my role gave me engineering experience I wouldn't able to find elsewhere. Additionally, I was able to work with an amazing research group.

What I wish was different

Research consists of reading through other research articles day in and day out in order to work towards a solution, but I think a stronger background in my specific topic would have gone a long way.

Advice

10 weeks is way shorter than it sounds. Make a detailed plan for the summer, and try to stick to that plan.

Events Intern

May - August 2023 • Colorado Springs, CO

What I liked

I enjoyed the people I was working with. My supervisor was amazing and training was quick and easy because of her. When she left, I didn't feel lost in the job because her training was so well that I was comfortable being on my own and getting things done. Everyone was nice and super encouraging.

What I wish was different

I wish my supervisor hadn't left. She was amazing and made the job fun and efficient that it never seemed like we were actually doing work.

Advice

Definitely be aware that you will be dealing with difficult people and if that is something that you aren't comfortable with, then you would not like the job. However, it teaches you a lot of customer service experience and skills.
