Student Financial Aid Counselor

August 2019 • Grand Junction, CO

What I liked

I liked the flexibility of working on campus. I live close to campus so I didn't have to drive anywhere and I made my schedule as it best fit my needs. I controlled my hours and my employers were always willing to let me do homework to make sure that I succeeded in school first.

What I wish was different

I wish that we could've encorporated Zoom a little more with FA events and information sessions. Many students called over the summer asking the same question.

Advice

Make sure you ask questions and get into something that will help you in your future career if possible. I have greatly utilized data gathering and storing techniques as well as speaking with students and large foundations.

Peer Tutor

August 2016 • Grand Junction, CO

What I liked

Chris is a wonderful boss. She understand that we're students first and is more than willing to work with our class schedules. I also love being able to help my fellow students; being a peer tutor is an incredibly rewarding and fulfilling job.

What I wish was different

Nothing. Honestly, this is the best job I've ever had.

Advice

If you are a peer tutor, don't be afraid to ask your fellow tutors for help if you get stuck helping out a student. You don't have to know everything, and showing your students that its okay to ask for help shows them that they're not totally alone in being confused.
