Advanced Metering Infrastructure IT Intern

June 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I liked the experience that I gained, and the fact that I was able to contribute through various projects, such as the Java Application that I created. This application will be used by Con Edison's Meter Data Management System Team, and I'm glad I got some interesting projects assigned to me in the IT department.

Advice

It would be helpful to know some Java/Python programming in advance and also maintain a high GPA as this definitely matters. They also ask about big projects that you have completed before, so have 1 or 2 interesting side projects to talk about during the interview. As stated previously, knowing the basics of many programming languages can be helpful. I knew C++ from my courses at Fordham University, but because I was very determined to learn Java for my project, I was able to go through the basics of Java within a week. After that, I researched on advanced topics and how to make connections from the Java application to various databases.
