Sustainability is defined as: "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." Environmental sustainability is broad and has intersections with many areas, including academics, food, energy, waste, transportation, water, and community engagement.
At CSU San Bernardino, being sustainable means reducing waste, using water responsibly, being energy efficient, using sustainable transportation, promoting green jobs, and much more.
CSU San Bernardino is a member of the Association for Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). AASHE explains the many applications of and connections to sustainability here: https://stars.aashe.org/pages/about/understanding-sustainability.html.
