Marketing Intern

January 2019 • Troy, MI

What I liked

I like the chance to finally get some hands on experience and the challenges of the real-world as it pertains to my career.

What I wish was different

I was i had known form the beginning of the internship that their was an opportunity for the internship to count as a class.

Advice

I would advise to my peer to stay hungry and do not forget how hard it is with out a well paying internship. Therefore one needs to keep there resume up-to-date with daily task completed. If there is no extension offered you are well prepared to make a move to another employer.

What I liked

The internship has given me more experience in the automotive industry and with programs relevant to my career path.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been more interaction with other people in the department. I was only aware of one other intern, whom I worked with on the project. We found out near the end that there were many interns in our department.

GDI Fuel Injector Intern

May - August 2019 • Rochester, NY

What I liked

I enjoyed the investigative nature of the project I was assigned. I had a lot of freedom to explore ideas that I had and wanted to test. This experience was a good combination of analyzing data and hands on experiential learning. I was able to design experiments, execute them, and look at results which allowed me to truly witness the entire process of product engineering.

What I wish was different

I wish that there had been more interns present at the company so that I had more students to connect with and bounce ideas off of. A large portion of the employees were of the middle aged or older generation, with only a few younger engineers to ask pertinent questions to.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share is to not be afraid to take initiative and ask the important questions. There came a time during my internship that I was a little lost and unsure of where to take my project next. I decided to call a meeting with all the people that my project results were impacting and ask them what they would like to see more or less of and what direction they needed it to go for the impact on their other projects. My mentor was glad that I had called this meeting and showed that initiative, because it got the project back on track and gave me fresh ideas to run with for my experiments. Without having to ask those tough questions my project would not have been as significant of a contribution or have such impactful results.
