Some of the things I liked was learning about how Downtown Boulder operates and I liked learning about how to manage social media. This is because I grew up in Boulder and enjoyed every moment learning about the different businesses downtown has as well as what goes into the meeting and community engagement. Managing social media was different than what I expected, but it was an easy process to learn and everyone was so nice about telling me what I needed to know to post as well as keeping me updated on changes within the social app itself and what I was expected to do on social media.
What I wish was different
I wish I was a little more prepared as to what to expect from my academic career to the internship. I’m lucky enough that I had a previous internship that worked with a CMS program, even though downtown Boulder uses a different one, it was easy to pick up. It would have helped if my major helped me with understanding all the moving parts of marketing and communication just so I felt more prepared for the work load.
Advice
Don’t be afraid to ask questions! Especially if it’s for the fall internship. There are so many events and happenings in the winter that it gets over whelming. It may feel like you're on your own, but the people in the office will help you with anything!

What I liked
Even though my internship was remote I still learned a lot and was given lots of responsibility and freedom to work on projects that I found interesting. I loved updating the website, doing social media engagement for DBP's Instagram and Twitter, and writing blog posts.
What I wish was different
It was difficult to write blog posts twice a week during COVID, especially by the second month I felt like I was running out of things to write about.
Advice
Share your ideas! The team loves hearing interns' ideas and suggestions and they value someone who is willing to speak up.
