What I liked

Got a lot of experience working one on one with my boss on different manufacturing tasks. I also got the opportunity to job shadow different people on their jobs to see how everyone there contributed.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been able to stay a little longer. I felt I was really starting to get into the engineering related content later in the summer.

Advice

Definitely push for projects that you are interested in. When I asked to do SOPs I learned a lot about all the different steps that go into making something and it showed me other side projects that also interested me.

Manufacturing Engineering Intern

What I liked

I enjoyed the hands-on role that manufacturing engineering provided me. I was on the shop floor and had many interactions with the machinists and assemblers who were creating and building the aerospace components.

What I wish was different

I wish there were more hours in a day and in a summer to have learned about all of the processes and tried my hand at a few more. As it was, I had the opportunity to try welding, cold forming, and brake pressing, all of which aided my understanding of the sheet metal manufacturing process.

Advice

I would say that the key of any internship is to be as active and self-motivated as possible. Your boss will have other responsibilities, so if there is something you are really interested in learning about or seeing, go for it and seek out the opportunity. When handed ideas or problems, run with it and make the most of the experience pulling from all resources available to come out with the best possible solution.
