Eat Drink Local Texas

Digital Marketing Intern

January 2024 • San Antonio, TX

What I liked

I really like that this internship gave me the opportunity to fill different roles. I was able to try roles as photographer all the way to an on-camera personality. I was able to not only gain relevant experiences, but have fun while doing so!

Advice

Say "yes!" when it comes to new opportunities! At first you might think you won't enjoy doing a certain task, but then you'll love it! Even vice versa, and you might find out you don't enjoy one side of marketing. Either way it's a win-win, and you find out more about your preferences!

Internship

January 2024 • San Antonio, TX

What I liked

Some of the things that I like about having this job is not only being able to travel to cities across Texas to feature local businesses and events, enjoy their dishes and amenities, how welcoming and flexible our supervisor and crew are, and how both our supervisor and crew allow me to carpool together to features and client visits.

What I wish was different

One thing I wish would be different is allowing the optional to attend weekly meetings online or in-person instead of having to be at the office location for a short amount of time.

Advice

Regardless of what hardware you're using (Smartphone, Camera, Microphone, etc.) or what software you're using to produce content (Video Editor, Graphic Editor, etc.), as long as you have willingness to learn and you have the devotion to help produce content; you will be golden.

What I liked

I liked the great experience of networking and working with small businesses in San Antonio.

What I wish was different

The only thing I wish that had been different was easier traveling (though that is more a personal issue than anything else and luckily have team members who offered helped with that when I needed it).

Advice

Be open-minded, take constructive criticism, and be prepared to develop great new skills!

Social Media Manager Intern

June 2023 • San Antonio, TX

What I liked

Interning at Eat Drink Local Texas has been an incredibly rewarding experience for me. From day one, I was amazed by the opportunities for professional growth and development within this internship. Fernando and the entire team are incredibly supportive and are always willing to help and guide you towards achieving your goals. One of the best things for me about this internship is the hands-on experience you get. Whether you're creating content, taking photographs, designing graphics, and honestly so much more. One of the most valuable lessons I've learned is how to effectively communicate with clients. This internship has given me the opportunity to reach out to people and engage with them in a professional manner. This experience has not only enhanced my communication skills but has also given me the confidence to interact with clients in a meaningful way.

Intern

August - December 2019 • San Antonio, TX

What I liked

Fernando was extremely flexible with all of his interns. He understood that this experience was unpaid and would always tell us that "family, school, and work comes first." He was always willing to help us and would coach us as to how to do things we may not have any idea what to do. Working here was fun and I learned a lot about social media that I really didn't understand all too well. But most importantly, I learned how to communicate with clients and build solid relationships with them to ensure a win-win situation.

Account Manager

December 2019 • San Antonio, TX

What I liked

What I love about interning here is the organic environment. You truly get to do a lot of hands on projects that allow you to step outside of your comfort zone. I find this to be beneficial because it lets you discover if you can actually see yourself doing this as a career once you are out of college. I was able to write a lot of articles and have them published which was a big accomplishment for me. Fernando is always willing to teach you something new, and has the patience to work with you whenever you find yourself struggling. I have enjoyed my time here.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have done my internship here in the fall semester instead. I feel as if I would have been able to dedicate more time to the various projects I have been apart of. Other than that, I have no regrets or negative things to say.

Advice

One piece of advice would be to voice what you are passionate about from the start so that you can start to better your craft throughout the semester. Internships are a time to make mistakes that aren't as permanent as they would be at a full-time job. Take risks, enjoy yourself!

Social Media Intern

January 2019 • San Antonio, TX

What I liked

The environment is very friendly and accepting! It is laid back and offers flexibility for your schedule. The owner truly understands that school, family or work is a priority during the internship and he wants you to succeed at anything you set your mind to! I am able to go on a lot of fun tours, concerts and events around San Antonio as part of the intern team. I have enjoyed interning for Valamayo Social!

What I wish was different

Nothing! This internship has exceeded my expectations and has been a very positive experience.

Advice

I would say be prepared to learn a lot and have fun! This is not a typical internship as the learning and networking opportunities are far beyond what most internships in SA can offer.
