If you are thinking about going into child care, do it! It is a lot of fun and is a good stepping stone for a lot of different jobs you might pursue later on.

Substitute Teacher

What I liked

I really enjoyed working with middle schoolers. Their energy made it fun to be in the classroom, even when substitute teaching was a bit of a drag from jumping to different classrooms every day. All the staff and other teachers are always very welcoming and appreciative of substitute teachers' work.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more opportunities to be in math and music classrooms, which are the two areas I'm working on being certified to teach.

Advice

Don't do this job if you can't stand children. If you don't enjoy being around them, then there is no reward. But if you do, study up on the best classroom management strategies, because you have to be a classroom management expert to do this job well.
