R&D Engineering Intern

June - August 2019 • Irvine, CA

What I liked

I liked that they had a lot of interns: 140 for the summer because they had good intern networking events and were well prepared for them. There was a lot of real engineering work in my department, which was really helpful to learn a lot about that.

What I wish was different

My own department was a little disorganized, but it wasn't too bad.

Advice

This is a great company to work for, it definitely highly depends on what department you are in though. Some departments are more focused on engineering work.

Manufacturing Intern

May - August 2019 • Draper, UT

What I liked

Great company culture, cutting edge products in their field, and they take great care of their employee's. My favorite part was the ownership of large scale projects that I was able to drive.

What I wish was different

They do not have a real R&D presence in UT.

Advice

Reach out to people you know that have or do work here--they don't actively recruit at BYU.

Supply Chain Finance Intern

May - July 2019 • Irvine, CA

What I liked

Very authentic experience. I was basically filling in for an analyst who had just left the company, in addition to working on my own, exciting product cost improvement project. My supervisor was awesome and a great leader, and the benefits and location could not be beat. Awesome activities for interns. I felt appreciated and valued for my efforts and contribution. Subsidized housing for unmarried interns.

What I wish was different

There were one or two occasions out of the 2+ months that I was there where I was so busy with time-sensitive responsibilities that I missed out on intern activities because I felt the pressure to get things done. This was a unique circumstance due to someone leaving the company right as I got there, though, and either way, it added authenticity to the experience.

Advice

Network as much as you can! Plug into people’s networks and get to know people and their experiences. This is a company where everyone is so collaborative and eager to get to know and help others.

Audit Intern

June - September 2019 • Irvine, CA

What I liked

Edwards has a very good work/ life culture. They expect you to work hard and accomplish your goals while also maintaining a stable life. They encourage interns to meet other employees and interact with different departments to gain knowledge of the company as a whole. Everyone was very friendly and management was very good!

What I wish was different

There were a few down periods with no work due to internal control audit schedules which lead me to work on smaller projects until there was more evidence for auditing.

Advice

Work hard and you will be rewarded by management.

Operations Integration Intern

July - September 2017 • Irvine, CA

What I liked

The company has a great culture and good people to work with. They want to say yes to you and give your ideas a chance. I had the opportunity to perform a number of interesting tasks and learned a lot. The higher-level leadership took time to speak to interns and give them advice, which was neat. Great pay and experience.

What I wish was different

It took a few days for them to get me settled in with my laptop and necessary equipment, so I wish that could have gone faster to begin doing meaningful work sooner. The initial training was a bit hard to digest, as it consisted of several long generic procedure documents.

Advice

Put yourself out there and ask questions and try applying yourself to different projects!
