“The position itself was made in a collaborative & improvisational manner, so the lack of formal structure was natural and it even constituted that everything that got done got done by virtue of personal motivation rather than of a rubric. If the work was determined by a rubric and strict expectations, pivots in direction would be a sign of failure, but for this experience, pivoting indicated value in our research because it meant we had a better idea for why we ought to look into other areas. If that all sounds too vague, then to put it simply, my experience with Empassion entailed a level of flexibility such that it was impossible to take my reasons for doing my job for granted.
