Going to families and helping them learn basic yet effective techniques to better communicate with their child and refrain the odds of child abuse.
What I wish was different
The family mentor is new and inexperienced. It was hard to get the hours I needed. I would have liked working with someone who knew what they were doing.
Advice
If you want to feel more involved with your community, the family center is the way to do it. There are many other ways you can intern other than be a family mentor.
