Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks

Ticket Sales/Marketing Intern

May - August 2018 • Fargo, ND

What I liked

It was a hands-on approach to persuade newcomers and current spectators to see our wide range of games events. My managers gave me extensive training to sell tickets and events and the freedom to sharpen my self-starting abilities to execute sales goals with my marketing team. We were also given opportunities to aid in certain occupations such as organizing the merchandise store, answer spectator questions at our guest relations area, and carry out event planning duties with our friendly front office staff. Also, the perks of free tickets and giveaways are super cool.

What I wish was different

There’s a need for improving team morale. Team discussions or a team powwow should be in effect to not only have everyone introduce themselves, but initiate open communication and ignite an opportunity for networking between interns and professionals.

Advice

If you are looking to find real-world experience in the entertainment industry and exhibit or improve your marketing/public relations skills, the RedHawks have their bases covered for professional guidance and opportunities to strengthen your skills and develop new abilities all throughout the season.

What I wish was different

I wish there wasn't a global pandemic that completely altered the way the season and everyone's jobs went.

Advice

It might not always be the work you want to do or expect to do, but you'll learn LOTS!

General Operations Intern

What I liked

Working for the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks gave great experience allowing you to fully understand the industry. I was able to work in most departments allowing myself to understand what really spiked my interest and enjoyed doing. On an average day I would work the ticket office, concessions, run on field promotions, and cater to group party decks allowing me to fully understand where I might want my future to go.

What I wish was different

There really isn't anything that I would wish to be different it gave me a great understanding of the industry.

Advice

If I were to give one piece of advice it would be that if you want to work in the sports industry it involves things you may not want to do with long hours, long days, and little pay. However, this helps you understand your individual strength and how you will be able to handle this industry.
