I completed this internship virtually during the Covid-19 pandemic and wish it had been an in-person experience.

What I liked
I loved the work environment. Everyone was incredibly welcoming and willing to help you learn and grow. This internship involved a lot of individual projects with long-term deadlines and I enjoyed being able to delve into those while also checking in frequently with my team.
What I wish was different
I would've loved to be able to be in-person and have the same experience but at the Bank!
Advice
Remote work takes adaptability and flexibility. You have to learn how to manage your time while also ensuring that you're communicating effectively with the rest of your team. It may seem hard to make the same connections that you would in the workplace, but it really just takes a little bit more initiative to schedule phone calls/ video chats and meet new people!

Bank Examiner Intern

What I liked
The Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond is an amazing organization that truly values their employees and serving the economy. I learned about the banking industry and the regulatory side of financial institution's safety and soundness. Under the Supervision and Regulation department, the bank examiner interns were assigned a case study on a community bank, traveled on-site to shadow 2 bank exams, conducted a mock vetting of our case study and a final presentation to several Assistant Vice President's from different business lines within the Supervision and Regulation department.

What I liked
I was treated like any other employee. My contributions were welcomed and I was able to lead projects on my own. I gained connections and hands-on experience in my field which which will significantly help me when searching for a full-time career when I graduate.
What I wish was different
I wish I could have stayed longer! While I did participate in a broad range of activities and projects, I do wish that I could have branched out even further. Still, this was an almost perfect internship experience.
Advice
When in doubt, apply anyways, even if you think you aren't fully qualified. I was doubtful that anyone would accept a freshman / rising sophomore as an intern, but I applied and was eagerly accepted for the position.
