Helping students and community members find a place to live that they loved was always so rewarding. Taking guests on tours and seeing the looks on their faces when they entered an apartment and imagined themselves living in it was always so satisfying. I was proud to work for this company and made sure that I went above and beyond for every guest and resident, making sure that I did everything in my power to solve their problems. The thankfulness they showed that someone cared and was working to fix their problems or answer their questions was very rewarding.
What I wish was different
I wish the full scope of what my job would entail had been described upon hiring. It wasn't a big deal, but I was surprised by the amount of physical labor involved in what I was lead to believe was an office job.
Advice
Working in the field of housing and property management can be challenging when dealing with frustrated residents, but always remember that tempers fade quickly and as long as the resident feels that you're genuinely trying to resolve their issue they'll calm down quickly. That's a general bit of life advice as well; people can become calm as quickly as they become angry, the key is to make the person feel heard and that you're making an effort.
