Product Manager Intern

June - August 2022 • New York City, NY

What I liked

My Gemini internship experience provided an incredible opportunity to lead and own projects that had a real impact. The environment had a great balance of independent leadership and mentorship, which allowed for immense growth and profound learning over the summer. Additionally, beyond individual projects the internship program had a defined structure where speaker series and workshops developed invaluable skills.

What I wish was different

Despite having a phenomenal remote work experience at Gemini, I feel that an in-person internship would have been more valuable for building relationships with interns/employees.

Advice

I recommend talking to as many individuals as you can to learn and receive advice from the passionate talent at Gemini.

Software Engineer Intern

June - August 2022 • Apopka, FL

What I liked

From the start interns are given the freedom to begin implementing solutions and make tangible changes to existing practices. The team I worked on ensured I was able to function in the role of a full time new hire which was immensely useful and gratifying. Beyond the role in Gemini, professional development was highlighted and helped to strengthen individuals as candidates when looking for future full time career opportunities. Intern Manager kept the cohort engaged and connected throughout the Summer.

What I wish was different

I don't currently have any negative actionable feedback, was absolutely thrilled and satisfied with the Summer.

Advice

The open culture is always spoken about, but everyone at Gemini is genuinely always willing to help, lead or just chat and give their insights. Make yourself available and keep an open mindset and you will come away much better than when you started.

Software Engineer Intern

June - August 2022 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Gemini's culture was wonderful. I was encouraged to ask questions and reach out to anyone, and I loved that no one was judging me for asking possibly "stupid" questions. Gemini exhibited the dynamic atmosphere of a start-up while having the stability of a big corporate, so basically had the best of both worlds! Besides the culture, the internship program introduces you to the world of cryptocurrency, web3, and NFTs, for which I was very thankful.

What I wish was different

Nothing really comes to mind for now.

Advice

Don't be afraid to reach out or ask questions. You learn more that way and you get things done faster that way.

Marketplace Operations Intern

June - August 2022 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I really liked the professional development sessions, and the networking opportunities with Gemini employees across the company, and overall I enjoyed being a really valued member of my team. Usually, interns don't have the ability to make meaningful impacts over such a short period of time, but I felt as if I definitely had the resources to do so.

What I wish was different

More transparency of return offers would be nice since it was difficult being employed during a crypto winter as a student.

Advice

The internship was truly an amazing opportunity, I would recommend utilizing the powerful Gemini network to your advantage and meeting as many people as possible, although being remote makes this a little hard.

TechOps Intern

June - August 2021 • New York City, NY

What I liked

The project I worked on was complex, challenging, satisfying, and a brilliant learning experience. Being given the opportunity to work on something legitimately meaningful inspired me to do the best work that I could do. Also, my coworkers were all extremely friendly and willing to lend their expertise. Being able to work on a small well-knit team where everyone has a say was thrilling. Another charming aspect were the weekly coffee chats we had, in which us interns met up with heads of different branches in the company to learn more about other departments, what they do, how they operate, etc. Much of the time you get locked into one small corner of a company as an intern, so that really opened up opportunities for me.

What I wish was different

My entire experience was almost entirely remote. I would've loved to engage with my coworkers more in person, but logistics made that difficult.

Advice

People are helpful, ask for help!

Software Engineering Intern

June - August 2021 • Irvine, CA

What I liked

1. Great project ownership: had opportunities to make actual impacts (instead of over-simplified projects just for interns), and involved in decision making of the project. 2. Learned a lot of cutting edge technologies and hands-on skills that are missing from my college classes. 3. Super nice and supportive manager & mentors. 4. The weekly coffee chat: got a chance to talk to all different people from the company, not just the tech people, but also managers, recruiters, and team leaders etc.

What I wish was different

Really enjoyed my time at Gemini. It would definitely make my internship even better if I could have worked and communicated with everyone in person. Because of the pandemic, I worked remotely at my home on the west coast while most my colleagues were on the east coast, and there was an awkward 3-hour time difference.

Advice

Do not hesitate to reach out to your manager, mentors, or anyone from the team when getting blocked by problems: everyone from Gemini that I worked with is easy-going and always willing to help.

Product Marketing Intern

August - December 2021 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

Despite this being an overused answer, it was the people at Gemini that made my internship exceptional. The Gemini marketing team has extraordinarily talented individuals who care about your experience as an intern. My manager, Adam Spar, was an incredible leader, marketer, and mentor who took extra care to ensure my internship experience was valuable for me. Throughout my ~4 months working for Gemini, Adam and the rest of the Product Marketing team were very supportive of my work and my career development. I had 1-on-1 calls with most team members, sometimes routinely, that would often evolve into conversations about crypto, Defi, fintech, the metaverse, or even the news of that day. All of this isn't to take away from the actual work that I did with Gemini. Despite being an intern, I felt my contributions to the company were impactful and beneficial to other employees. However, it was the personal interactions that made my experience one that I will never forget.

What I wish was different

Overall my experience at Gemini was incredible. If one thing had to be different, I would have loved the experience to have been in person. Since the company had a WFH policy due to the pandemic, I never met any of my colleagues in person. There is a level of connection that is missing when people are not in the same physical space. While I am grateful for the connections I've made, I wish I had more of those "in-between moments" that happen at the office.

Advice

Schedule as many calls as you can with as many people as possible. Gemini employees are bright and often have fascinating stories to tell. I've never regretted getting to know one of the people I've met at Gemini. If I could go back in time to the start of my internship, I would try to meet as many people as possible during my time with the company.
