Strategic Global Sourcing Intern

April 2022 • Waukesha, WI

What I liked

I enjoyed that the experience was not only focused on the sourcing aspect of supply chain, even though that was my job title. I was able to experience sourcing, logistics, planning and buying.

What I wish was different

I had an overall good experience, however, because of a personal situation with my manager, I was unable to receive constructive feedback during my internship. I had to rely on other interns and other employees within the department.

Advice

Generac did a really good job of giving you a problem to solve and not exactly telling you what to do. They made it clear that I was going to learn a lot during this internship, and I did. Answers were not just given to me, I needed to use critical thinking skills to find solutions. Don't expect to be handed everything in this role, you are definitely a valuable asset to the team.

Assembler

May - August 2020 • Whitewater, WI

What I liked

I liked the people I worked with. I formed good relationships with everyone on the floor. Also, the pay was very good.

What I wish was different

I wish I didn't have to start at 5 AM!

Advice

Assembly line factory job. It can be hard work, but the pay and people make up for it. Easy to learn, and good people to work with. Usually working 50 hours a week, and more overtime is available if you want it. Overall, a great summer job for a college student like myself looking to make good money in the summer.

Supply Chain Intern

June - September 2019 • Berlin, WI

What I liked

I loved this job. The people were very great and knew what they wanted from their interns. From the moment I walked into the job to the moment I left, they had a plan for me to help get better.

What I wish was different

One of the few things that was rough was that I had a project that I was doing and I was not given enough time at the end of my internship to see the end result of the project. However, I was a outlier in that the other 2 interns were able to start their project earlier and saw a result. They just had me start a tad late.

Advice

Take everything in and remember, people are there to help you. Everything about my internship was a learning experience and when I did not understand, I always asked and my bosses were always understanding.

What I liked

I loved the people and the atmosphere of the office. I also really liked being able to go from the office to the plant floor to get a change of scenery.

I never got a project to complete over the course of the summer. Day to day tasks were enjoyable, but there was not an overarching project.

Community Relations Intern

June - December 2018 • Waukesha, WI

What I liked

I loved the workplace culture here! Everyone is so friendly and accommodating. I was nervous since this was my first intership and Generac is a big company, but I felt so supported.

What I wish was different

At some points I felt like a small fish in a big pond, since Generac is a huge company, but I still felt that my work was important.

Advice

Networking is key. By constantly talking with my coworkers, I made many lifelong friends and mentors.

Engineering intern

May 2019 • Waukesha, WI

What I liked

I enjoyed the real world experience. Whether it was just CAD or working on other projects, it was always interesting and kept bringing new challenges.

What I wish was different

I would have liked the opportunity for a more hands-on experience. Working for a larger company with multiple separate production plants, I didn’t get to see much of what I was working on.

Advice

Any work experience in college is great experience. Positive or not, you get to learn what you do and don’t like about your future career and about companies in general. I would definitely recommend looking for internships early and often in college.

Engineering Intern

May 2019 • Waukesha, WI

What I liked

I was put in with the Electronics team, and got to be involved in many projects during my internship. There was a lot of troubleshooting to do, which enhanced my understanding of certain topics of electrical engineering that can only come from experience. They also have a cafeteria with some good food.

What I wish was different

I think this was the best experience I have received from an internship. Can't say anything bad about it.

Advice

Come in ready to learn or you won't be able to understand the next steps.

Engineering Systems Intern

May 2018 • Waukesha, WI

What I liked

The atmosphere everyone was so nice and helpful. Additionally how much I learned about different engineering programs such as Creo and Windchill.

What I wish was different

I wish it wasn't so far away from my house. Other than that I can't say I would change anything.

Advice

Make sure to learn as much as you can and ask questions if you have them. It's a completely different experience than school and you will have a learning curve, but it will show you what it's like to have an actual job in your field.
