The hours for this summer was better than previous years.
What I wish was different
- Training was rushed and not efficient
- Management was shoddy at best
- Time management was mismanaged
- Communication between employees was unclear
- Employees were not notified of sudden changes until after the fact
Advice
Instead of yelling at everyone vaguely because one person did something wrong, pull aside the person themselves to strive to do better. And then if they don't do better, enforce some sort of punishment, or, as we have seen, they will continue to make mistakes and not improve.

Summer Conference Assistant
June - August 2018 • Fairfax, VA
What I liked
It was a great work experience, in that it wasn't just one routine thing. There was manual labor with moving residential and housing equipment, to simple desk work, to doing safety walk arounds. Made a lot of fun friends via this job as well. A great networking opportunity.
What I wish was different
There was a lot of miscommunication between the work policies and contract to the employees, and the training was a lot of slideshows whereas it should've more hands on.
Advice
Be prepared to do physical work every week, and even work on weekends. And please read through the work contract thoroughly. Be aware that you're being paid in a set stipend, and not hourly.
