Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts

Lead Trip Counselor

June - August 2021 • Pelham, NH

What I liked

Camp Runels provided a fantastic space for my leadership and professional development while also providing a solid support network and a safe space to learn from my mistakes

What I wish was different

Covid restrictions made some parts of the summer difficult, but the safety of our campers is always a priority so it was easy to adapt!

Advice

This is a safe place to take risks and explore your own strengths and weaknesses on a team, take every opportunity you get!

Sailing Instructor

What I liked

I loved working outdoors at a beautiful location. The staff was amazing and it was a great opportunity to learn and utilize leadership skills and collaboration.

What I wish was different

I wish there was more support from administration, they did not help with issues.

Advice

It is a very intense job because you don’t get much time off, but it is such a rewarding experience.

Camp Counselor

June - August 2019 • Pelham, NH

What I liked

The people I worked with and the children. I also gained a lot of self-confidence and felt like myself there; most memorable and so far best summer yet.

What I wish was different

Nothing.

Advice

Some days its really hot out, but if you drink your water, wear appropriate clothing and bare through it, it will be fine. You're also there almost every day of the week for most of the summer, so you'll have dedicated your summer to this.

Camp Counselor

June - August 2018 • Brewster, MA

What I liked

I loved getting to work with kids, co-workers from around the world, and develop my skills as an instructor, leader and communicator.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had budgeted my time more efficiently prior to leaving for my job so that I did not have to complete most of my packing for school in the few days I had between finishing my job (for which I lived outside of my home state), and returning to Gettysburg.

Advice

In my experience, developing soft skills, and getting to practice important aspects of being a good employee and person, such as communicating effectively can be incredibly valuable, and will allow you to learn a lot about yourself.
