Girl Scouts of North East Ohio

Human Resources Intern

May - August 2019 • Macedonia, OH

What I liked

It was my first real hands on experience within the HR profession. I loved the idea of learning something new everyday. It provided me with a great deal of real world knowledge that I will take with me far beyond college. I loved working for a nonprofit organization and because of that it has inspired me to further my education in nonprofit administration.

Advice

I think the main piece of advice I would give is do your research before hand. I think I would have been a little more prepared knowing what would be necessary for me to know to make days a little smoother. Another huge piece of advice would be to ask as many questions as you can. It doesn’t even have to be related to the field. I asked questions about everything. I inquired about other departments and how they fit into the organization. Questions are huge!

Advice

This is a great experience. If you are a person who is afraid to step out of your confront zone, don't let that limit your opportunities. Its okay to feel scared. Try to find a way to embrace the fear.

Camp Counselor

June - August 2018 • Wakeman, OH

What I liked

it was fun working with the young girls and hanging out with fellow coworkers who enjoyed camp as much as me. Since it involves basically living at camp all summer, you really had to want the job to take it. The food was amazing as well.

What I wish was different

I wish it paid more, but it was still amazing.

Advice

If you want a lot of money, this job isn't for you. If you want to get paid while working with young children in a fun environment, then this is for you. Campers really come to love you and you make very special connections.
