I really loved programming events suited to educating and empowering young girls from Nebraska and surrounding areas. There were challenges, but it was very rewarding when girls had breakthroughs. I also loved being able to work outside all summer! Another great part of the job was my coworkers. Girl Scouts brings in international workers through the program Camp America. I built lifelong friendships with these girls and now I have places to stay when I visit Scotland and Germany.
What I wish was different
There was not much work life balance at camp since we lived there and worked Sunday through Friday. It cut down on my summer expenses significantly, but I only was truly off duty on Saturdays.
Advice
This job requires you to like kids, the outdoors, and having very little "me" time. Make sure you are honest with yourself before working here with whether that is something you genuinely can handle. My other advise is take your breaks! With 12+ hour days, make sure you get away for the required amount of time.
