I wish I knew I had to give away half of my summer when I applied for this scholarship. There is a lot of "reading the fine print" when you apply for this scholarship. They do not tell you everything up front. I would recommend NOT applying for this scholarship if you want to keep your summers.

You need to keep communicating with everyone at Golden Apple, because they do not communicate well with Scholars.

What I liked
I loved being able to take control of the math portion of the summer program. My cooperating teacher was very flexible and let me lead. Having the experience of adjusting curriculum to fit the learning needs for what skills they are struggling with. This experience has made me feel confident at where I am in my journey.

Advice
Connect with your co-teacher and ask to take lead to get the most out of the experience. Be professional and connect with the students.

What I liked
This Summer Institute gave me such a great opportunity to expand my network with other educators as well as give me hands on experience teaching in a class room! We were provided with classes as well that better prepared me to teach in a school of need.

It will make me the best in my field, they are very supportive, and it was a valuable experience. I also liked living in the city.
