Food runner
July - October 2019 • Vienna, VA
What I liked
Working at Patsys allowed me to focus on my work ethic, a trait that I will take with me everywhere I go.
What I wish was different
I wish i would have been treated better by my bosses. Working in the restaurant industry can be hectic and it is easy to yell at people who are just doing their best and working to afford school. Kindness is key. I noticed that some(not all) the higher levels within the company treated food runners and servers like they were less than. It was quite awful.
Advice
I would recommend this job to anyone who wants to learn the importance of a strong work ethic. The owners of the restaurant utilize an extremely particular set of rules and regulations and guidelines for the behavior and appearance of their employees. While following every rule is not easy, it instills a great amount of character for a young student who is seeking a professional career after college.

What I liked
I was able to get as many hours as I wanted.
What I wish was different
There are some duties that only male runners have to complete. More equal responsibilities would be appreciated.
Advice
Being a runner is a good job, but if possible become a server. Their pay is better.
