What I liked

This internship provided wonderful networking opportunities and a close proximity to Capitol Hill.

I had a wonderful experience, I would not change anything.

Advice

One should have a strong knowledge of politics going in and keep an open mind to learn from your peers.

Online Membership Intern

May - August 2018 • Washington, DC

What I liked

I loved pretty much everything about the internship and the opportunities they gave me both personally and professionally. The people at Heritage genuinely want to help those who make up the future of the conservative movement and their Young Leaders Program is indicative of that. Not only do we get to listen to policy briefings from experts in the field, but we also got to do real work. I don't know if this is true for the current intern now in this role, but I got to write briefings to our members about what the organization was doing, which was sent out to thousands of members. I thought it was special that they would put that kind of responsibility into the hands of an intern. It was interesting work.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship were longer, honestly.

Advice

Don't be afraid to put yourself out there and ask for things. I got to have breakfast with North Korean refugees--which was a private event--simply because I asked. Everyone there wants to help you and foster those relationships.
