Critical Mass Media Intern

August 2022 • Boston, MA

What I liked

The company gave me the opportunity to contribute my thoughts and ideas freely and trusted my opinion as a young adult working on the consulting side of social media growth and research.

What I wish was different

Due to my location and financial limitations, a lot of my job was remote. I would have loved to get in studio more often and get more hands on with the talents’ content creation.

Advice

Make the most of a remote experience. Don’t be afraid to connect with anyone in the company who you find interesting or want to speak with.

Broadcast Producer

April 2018 • Rochester, NY

What I liked

Fun and engaging environment with great people to work with.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been a little stronger in my position of not working certain days and hours during the school year as it was quickly overwhelming for me.

Advice

iHeartMedia is a very tow the line company. They do not really care about the well being of their personnel as long as the job gets done in the end.

Video Production/Promotions Assistant

May 2018 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

Everything was great! Working with both the video and promotions teams was an amazing experience and was the perfect opportunity for me this summer. Everybody was extremely welcoming and they trusted me with big events such as Country Thunder, the Chicago Pride parade, and more!

What I wish was different

Really don’t have any complaints! The overall dynamic was great and the directors were amazing in communicating with us all to get things done well.

Advice

Always look to expand your horizons. Heading into the summer I never would have guessed I would be doing half the things I did but it was an amazing experience and I met tons of great people.

DevOps Intern

June - August 2018 • San Antonio, TX

What I liked

I found the environment very lax, and my boss actively established rapport with me along with the rest of the project team. In the middle of the internship, a hackathon took place, which was an exciting experience that allowed me to work on an entirely new project with coworkers while competing for high-stakes prizes.

What I wish was different

There was certainly more room for intern social activities. I did not have the opportunity to know my fellow interns as much as I could have, since they worked on entirely different projects in other parts of the office. Moreover, I was the only intern working on the project that I was assigned to.

Advice

If you don't seem to understand how to complete a task, ask someone for help! In many cases, the person who is able to assist you most effectively is on a different project or department altogether. Do not be afraid to reach far in seeking help.

Promotion Event Support

January 2018 • Nashville, TN

What I liked

I have gotten a lot of great experience from this internship. I learned so much about events. I have helped plan and put together events day of, which I think helps a lot to see the whole process.

What I wish was different

Nothing!

Advice

Events are harder than you may think. The girls I work with were straight up about this when I first met them, and they were not lying! Be prepared to work hard, especially on event days!

Promotions Assistant

March 2018 • Greensboro, NC

What I liked

I loved being able to interact with new listeners and always being able to work in different locations for different events!

What I wish was different

I wish we had more to do at some events because some don’t allow us to give out prizes or giveaways and only allow us to take pictures.

Advice

I would say to always be friendly to the listeners you meet and engage with them! It’s an exciting job and a great way to network because you get to meet so many people and occasionally artists.
