Ingersoll Rand

Process Automation Intern

June - August 2019 • Davidson, NC

What I liked

I was able to complete an automation project from start to finish including the business analyst work, writing commands in a new technology, and testing. I also had an amazing manager/ mentor.

What I wish was different

I worked on this project with support but without a team. I wish I had been able to work with a team throughout the project.

Advice

Ingersoll Rand - now Trane Technologies - has a great rotational full-time program that they usually fill from the intern class. If this is something you might be interested in know that it is a great opportunity but not usually open to external hires for full-time.

Tax Intern

May - August 2019 • Piscataway, NJ

What I liked

I loved the company culture at IR. Everyone was so helpful and wanted to see me succeed. It was an amazing place to learn and grow as an individual and professional.

What I wish was different

We only had 2 interns in the office because we were considered a satellite location, so we did not get to do as many engagement activities as the intern in our headquarters in NC did. We didn't have a chance to attend conferences and other events like them because we weren't based there, but I wish we had more engagement in our Piscataway office.

Advice

I learned to not be afraid to ask questions and admit when you don't know something. People at IR especially value honesty and integrity, and they like when people can admit that they need a little help- it makes us human! They want their employees to learn and grow and the only way they can help do that is if we are honest with ourselves.

Finance intern

May 2019 • Memphis, TN

What I liked

I really enjoyed the work environment and the ability to constantly learn on the job. It is a difficult internship for the newly initiated, but it is a constant opportunity to improve yourself on a business level as well as personal.

What I wish was different

I do not wish that anything would’ve gone differently. I really enjoyed my experience and the employers I worked for. They were constantly making sure I was learning and grasping all the information I needed to have.

Advice

I would say to take ever opportunity you can while in school and make sure you put forth your true effort into whatever you do. You want to feel confident in the work you deliver or else I feel you won’t strive towards your full potential.

I was given the opportunity to work on various on going projects. As a lab engineer I worked closely with technicians to build and implement things that I designed.

What I wish was different

I wish that I was given a little more guidance through out the internship.

Advice

When given an assignment, don't try to recreate the wheel. All of the engineers have their own assignments but everyone is willing to help you so take advantage of that.
