What I wish was different
More involved with the design process.
Advice
Always ask for work and try to figure out problems beforehand then ask an employee.

What I liked
I liked that the engineers I worked with were willing to explain the logistics and deadlines of a typical project so I could orient myself. Everyone was helpful and gave me tips or tutorials for the calculations I had to do and for the program applications we used. It was a very comfortable and welcoming environment to work in.
What I wish was different
Even with all of the help from the others, it was hard to dive into a new environment with their own organizational system for all of the files and jargon used on team documents. It would have been nice to have a document that explained what certain abbreviated terms meant and the naming and nesting convention for folders within a single project. To help with the environment, it would be nice to have an office map of where someone's desk was or which printer was in the hallway--basically small details that really help.
Advice
Take the opportunity to help with every step of the project and learn as much about the work as you can. If you truly understand what you're doing, then it makes the work so much easier. It also helps to always have a notepad and pen on you.
