I enjoyed being able to coordinate with Engineers to ensure testing software met compliance and regulatory specifications.
What I wish was different
I wish I got out of my comfort zone more to be able to experience other opportunity that I did not take, and to learn more while I was there.
Advice
Always be proactive while working; look for things to do and to learn. There is always something you could help with or you could learn from an Engineer.

What I liked
The type of work I did was not to hard. Just a lot to learn.
What I wish was different
That I had learned more while working during the summer. It seemed like they taught me some things and then I didn’t get a chance to learn more because they just kept giving me the things I had already learned.
Advice
Learn as much as you can about what goes on and who will be able to help you there.

Student Engineer

What I liked
It allowed someone like me who didn't have much engineering experience, to get the first-hand experience at what an engineering company was like.
What I wish was different
Some organizational structuring like a full introduction into the position and what is what. Some things I just had to learn along the way because there wasn't a guided path that student engineers like me had. Preferably more pay as well, you only get a ~1% increase in salary for working there ~6 months I believe.
Advice
Go into any experience with an open mind, absorb any information no matter how minute because it might come back in a way you wouldn't have expected.

What I liked
The people are super friendly and get along well with each other. Also, the amount of work available here is unbelievable. There should never be a time where you have nothing to do, which is great. The supervisors are also very understanding about school hours and responsibilities, so they are lenient on work hours and letting you off when you need to be.
What I wish was different
I wish there had been more training to learn the in-house software ins and outs. There was some basic training and, when time allowed, some sessions that went more in-depth, but not nearly about everything. This was fine for me since I like to learn on my own, but others may find it overwhelming without the training.
Advice
Be ambitious. There will come a point where you be handed less work and expected to get it on your own. Do not be afraid to go ask others in your department what they are working on and ask if it is something you can help with or if they would be willing to let you watch them and learn. It will make a world of difference in the experience you have here.

Student Engineer
May 2015 • Wichita, KS
What I liked
I was able to work closely with the engineers and was hired full time as an Electrical Engineer before graduation.
What I wish was different
Sooner developing opportunities with the engineers.
Advice
Work hard, especially at the beginning. It is most of what determines whether you will get more opportunities to work directly with an engineer.
