John Henry Foster

Hydraulic Repair Intern

May - August 2023 • St. Louis, MO

What I liked

The people were all very friendly and welcoming, and there was no shortage of things to do in the various departments. I had the most fun learning to weld and helping on the hydraulic repair floor.

What I wish was different

The internship I participated in was not as strictly structured as others I know of. While this did leave me a lot of freedom to pursue projects that interested me the most, I had to set strict goals for myself in order to stay focused.

Advice

Ask for things to do. All of the departments are easily accessible on the factory floor. I was able to pick up a bunch of skills just by dropping by the fabrication area, or shadowing the hydraulic technicians, or taking on tasks for the folks in the office.

Production Engineer Intern

May - August 2022 • Berkeley, MO

What I liked

I got to do a lot of hands-on work and I enjoyed the people I worked with.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had gotten to do a little more design work. I didn't get to do much CAD work at all.

Advice

If you're a freshman with little experience, this is a great option. However, if you can end up somewhere that will give you more engineering and design experience, I would recommend that.
