What I liked

Although Covid changed the way in person work happened, I was still able to get the full experience of an internship from Kennari. I learned more than I expected to, and I walked away with new skill sets that boost my resume. My ideas were shared and never turned down. I was able to attend an event on behalf of Kennari and this helped open my network. I now work with the company I work with because of Kennari Consulting!

What I wish was different

I wish I could have intern longer than 4 months.

Advice

Ask questions, learn the different departments of the organizations. The more you learn from here, the more you will be able to take away. This is more than just an internship, it's an opportunity that can start your career path!

What I liked

My internship at Kennari allowed me to be exposed to all elements of non-profit fund development in an up close and hands-on way. I was able to work side by side with consultants and project managers on client facing projects that had a real impact. My eight months at Kennari gave me the confidence and skills I needed to enter the workforce in development. Additionally, the team at Kennari wants nothing but the best for their interns and played a crucial and supportive role in my job search.

What I wish was different

I wouldn't change anything about my internship!

Advice

You get out of this what you are willing to put into it. Don't be afraid to ask questions and dive headfirst into projects and into the team atmosphere!

Non-profit Services Intern

What I liked

I loved being able to network with a variety of nonprofits in the area. This internship gave me the exposure I needed, got me in front of key individuals in the industry, and they continue to serve as a resource even though it has been 3 years since my internship. Kennari is full of great people who are always willing to help and connect!

What I wish was different

Honestly, I wish I had interned at a time where a nonprofit had a specific project that I would have been able to help facilitate or work more in depth on throughout the semester. I did have opportunity to help on multiple smaller projects, but it would have been nice to have a larger overarching one. Obviously, this is dependent on Kennari's current clients and it very well might have been different if I had held the internship in the Spring, per say.

Advice

I always tell students (for any internship, not just at Kennari) to keep in touch with your connections! I can't tell you how many times already that individuals at Kennari have been willing to refer me or just give advice. It has been so helpful so far in my career.

What I liked

I absolutely loved my internship at Kennari Consulting. I learned so much about the nonprofit sector in Grand Rapids as well as skills that helped me excel in a career in fundraising. The team at Kennari provided me with a well rounded experience, with the opportunity to work in all facets of the company. I was at intern at Kennari for two semesters where I learned countless skills that I took with me into my career in the nonprofit sector after graduation.

What I wish was different

I would not change anything about my internship with Kennari!

Advice

I highly encourage you to apply for their internship program. You will learn so much, make wonderful and long lasting relationships and gain confidence as a young nonprofit professional.

What I liked

I really appreciated the structure of the internship. Kennari did a wonderful job of allowing me to have experiences in the office, working on projects to support the organization and clients, as well as shadowing opportunities to sit in on meetings and participate in the client relationships. This provided lots of great experiences for growth and development that exceeded my expectations.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been able to shadow more client meetings, however, my personal schedule during my final semester of college prevented me from doing so.

Advice

Take advantage of all of the opportunities to learn in this role. Ask lots of questions in meetings, don't be afraid to share your ideas, and soak up all the wisdom the Kennari team has to offer. They're more than happy to assist you and want you to get the most from your experience with them.

What I liked

The Kennari Consulting internship was an amazing experience for me because I got to learn valuable information about the philanthropy industry in West Michigan and make connections with a variety of nonprofit organizations.
