KeyBank

Analytics and Quantitative Modeling Intern

June - August 2022 • Cleveland, OH

What I liked

There were a lot of opportunities to network across the bank, which was a great opportunity to learn more about different departments and roles. In terms of my work, I liked having one large project that I saw from beginning to end throughout the course of my internship. That experience gave me a great sense of accomplishment and lots of new knowledge. I also enjoyed working the flexibility of working both in-person and at home.

What I wish was different

I wish that the program had put more of an emphasis on collaborative teamwork. Since there was a learning curve when it came to terminology and some softwares, it would have been beneficial to work on projects with other interns rather than mostly by myself.

Advice

Everyone I interacted with was very welcoming and open to share their expertise on a certain subject or share their own career journeys. Don't be afraid to reach out to learn more about what someone does or how they got there; it is a great chance to network and expand your knowledge of the company.

Technology Intern

June - August 2021 • Cleveland, OH

What I liked

I loved the willingness of team members to lend a helping hand and help me through any tough problems. It was also great to be in a team with other interns so we could bounce ideas off one another and learn how to effectively collaborate.

What I wish was different

Unfortunately, this was a completely remote internship, so it would have been nice to be in-person. However, the nature of the work really wasn't affected by being remote, it just would have been nice for the social/networking aspect.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions/ for clarification/ for help! Everyone is so willing to help you learn and grow, you just have to take the first step.

Technology and Operations Intern

June 2020 • Brooklyn, OH

What I liked

The work was never boring, there was always work to do. I had a good team; both the interns, employees,, and contractors were also nice and helpful. They have an excellent amount of documentation to get you started and to guide you. They mean it when they tell you to ask questions.

What I wish was different

More direction, it is very much not guided. It may be more so when in-person, but while remote, you are generally left on your own.

Advice

Never be afraid to ask questions, whether for help or direction. You won't look stupid or foolish, your boss will rather see it as genuine desire to do well and to do work.

Processing Assitant

April 2020 • Amherst, NY

What I liked

I really liked how understanding and helpful the management is. I appreciated the work from home, and the flexibility around school, they truly made being a student my first priority. I also learned valuable skills and gained mentors in this role.

What I wish was different

I do wish I would have had the option to work in the office setting as well as work from home. I feel like it would have helped my networking, and allowed me to learn even more from my co-workers.

Advice

Always try and/or ask, the worst anyone can do is say no. If you think a process can be improved, let management know how you think you can improve it. If you want to learn more about the process, ask.
