Grocery Checker

April 2019 - July 2020 • Fort Collins, CO

What I liked

I liked how I was able to do several different types of jobs during a shift, from restocking to checking to bringing in carts.

What I wish was different

I wish that I could have had more say with my interactions with customers, specifically the right to not work with a customer. I had several people who were terrible to me and my coworkers, felt entitled to different parts and processes of the store, and some who were very obviously sexist, racist, homophobic, or all of the above.

Advice

Try to be kind to all the people you work with, managers, coworkers, and customers. You're more likely to gain respect this way.

Customer Service Correspondence Clerk

July - September 2019 • Aurora, CO

What I liked

I liked the friendly community. A lot of companies like to promote how their work space is a lot like a home but rarely see it as a customer. For me working at King Soopers I could actually tell that people actually had a good time working there. A lot of people were around my age range which made me feel more comfortable. Additionally, I learned a lot about how to handle money and the different security processes when it came to the lottery, selling age restricted products, and keeping track of a drawer to make sure there wasn't any theft from within the store.

What I wish was different

I wish I had applied earlier. I wish they expanded their options to give aid to students in college. Right now a student has to be working with the store for six months in order to be given aid from King Soopers this would be very hard to do for who are only home for three months which is during the summer.

Advice

Be ready to handle stressful situations. People can put a lot of pressure on you for things that you wouldn't figure is a big deal so just keep your cool.
