Process Engineer Intern

May - July 2022 • Gordonsville, VA

What I liked

I learned a lot about being an engineer outside of school. I got a lot of hands on experience and met a UVA alumni! Everyone there was very welcoming and I loved talking to operators on the floor.

What I wish was different

The summer was not structured and I frequently ran out of projects to do. I had one where I did an FMEA, which took the whole summer, but it was dependent on meetings, so when I didn't have meetings I was stuck with nothing to do (and had to go out of my way to ask multiple people for projects). I wish that there was a more structured approach to the internship with more than one project for me to do.

Advice

Talk to as many people as you can at your internship! Everyone (even if not related to your position) has advice for you and lots to learn from! It also impresses your manager if people come up to them and they tell them about what you've been doing.
