Knox County Health Department

About Knox County Health Department

As a public health agency, we work to promote and protect the health of everyone in our community. We track and monitor diseases, conduct extensive health education and outreach, provide and connect people with care, enforce food safety and air quality laws and regulations, prepare for public health emergencies, and more — all with the goal to ensure the conditions in which every Knox County resident can be healthy.

We have nine divisions and employ more than 260 professionals including public health educators, epidemiologists, physicians, environmentalists, nurses, nutritionists, emergency preparedness specialists and many others.

We are a division of Knox County Government under the supervision of Knox County Mayor. The Knox County Board of Health was established to serve an advisory role.

environmental health intern

“I loved that even though my position was environmental health, I got to shadow the other departments. Even though my job was to collect mosquitoes to check for West Nile and that could be really smelly and gross I loved every minute of it. ”
