Lazard Asset Management

Sales & Marketing Intern

June - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

First and foremost, I loved the culture of the workplace at LAM. The people I got to work with this summer are passionate about the quality of their work, care deeply for the clients, and value the happiness and overall life/job satisfaction of their co-workers and employees. I was also really happy with the exposure I received to the asset management industry and the insight I received into what it's like to work in a client-facing role in finance.

What I wish was different

In the beginning of the summer, I struggled with some confidence issues. I was afraid that I did not have enough experience in finance to do well in my role; I allowed this nervousness to hold me back a bit at first. In reality, the firm values smart people who are eager to learn above all else. I wish I were more comfortable asking questions and putting myself out there from the start!

Advice

The role can be relatively unstructured at times so do not be afraid to go-get when you have free time. Ask the people in your department to shadow and offer to pick up extra work. Going the extra mile shows your eagerness to learn and get involved, and reflects positively on your work ethic. Curiosity is key -- the more you ask questions and volunteer yourself to new conversations and learning experiences, the more you will get out of the internship.

Summer buy-side equity research analyst

June - August 2017 • New York City, NY

What I liked

The amount of responsibility and trust. The people and culture of the firm.

What I wish was different

Nothing really. Perhaps a bit more of an intensive training week.

Advice

That this internship requires a lot of independent thinking and it's not about doing tasks for others.
