Lessing's Hospitality Group

Cafe Server

June - July 2019 • Stony Brook, NY

What I liked

What I really liked about this job is how I really got to interact with the customers as I served them the food, and also being able to work with amazing coworkers who all worked as coherently of a team as possible.

What I wish was different

What I wish could have been different could have been if we were able to get a formal break. Throughout each shift, I never had much opportunity to just sit down and take a break for 5 minutes when the cafe was slow.

Advice

One piece of advice would be to preferably have some sort of food service experience before entering this job. Even with me having prior experience, there was still quite a lot to learn. Also be prepared to be on your feet throughout this job, so make sure that you wear comfortable, slip-resistant sneakers.

Advice

If you have a passion for the hospitality business remain at this job because it has excellent mobility. A majority of my coworkers experienced pay raises or promotions by the end of the summer.

Catering Server

May 2018 • Riverhead, NY

What I liked

I loved my coworkers and supervisors. It was a relaxed work setting. Guests were typically respectful and fun. I was usually on my feet and working on a task.

What I wish was different

Late hours, but I knew this going in.

Advice

Most of the workers are in highschool, so they can be immature. You just have to know how to work with them.
