Slope Operations Attendent

May - August 2021 • Lynchburg, VA

What I liked

I loved the environment of working at Snowflex. The community is wonderful and working outdoors with people is an enjoyable experience. The managers care about your wellbeing and are flexible with school schedule. The views of working on a mountain are also a bonus.

What I wish was different

One thing that I would have loved to have been different are the amount of breaks that are given to employees. Shifts are usually eight hours long during the summer without any defined breaks. While this is normally not necessarily a problem due to the nature of the work, it is a shortcoming when it is a busy day.

Advice

Working at Snowflex is a great experience. However, be prepared to work outside for extended periods of time. The work isn't super hard, but you do spend a lot of time outside while doing it.

Basketball Manager

August 2020 • Lynchburg, VA

What I liked

I enjoy getting to show up to my internship daily and be a sponge as a watch and learn about my career field. I want to coach college basketball and I couldn't have asked for a better internship experience. I like that I get to help our team be more and more successful daily. The role that I play too many would normally go unnoticed, but I can say that I see a difference with my presence at practice everyday.

What I wish was different

Like many, I wish this year wasn't a COVID-19 pandemic year. With things like masks, daily check-in's, weekly tests, travel restrictions, mandated quarantines and more, it makes it harder to enjoy the experience to the fullest. With that being said, all of us involved have found ways to make the situation the best we possibly can.

Advice

This experience is truly a blessing. The piece of advice I want to share is that you should get involved if you are willing to fully commit. Things like gear and travel perks are nice, but you really have to humble yourself and know that you are not only serving our God above, but the players and coaches of your sport.

Global Studies Intern

January - May 2019 • Angers, Maine-et-Loire

What I liked

I loved getting to study language and culture while being involved in local ministry.

What I wish was different

I wish I had known more of the language beforehand, but nonetheless it was a great opportunity to be able to study and learn to communicate while I was there.

Advice

In all things, rely on the Lord, not yourself.

What I wish was different

I wish we had a longer Break time.

Advice

What I liked

I loved the opportunity to break out of my comfort-shell and share all the Lord is doing at Liberty University.

What I wish was different

Advice

I would love for people to realize that sometimes the jobs or things that scare people the most are the very things we know we should be doing, so trust the lord, pursue the hard things, and chase for the things that will ultimately help with your future occupation.

New Enrollment Specialist

January 2019 • Lynchburg, VA

What I liked

I like the environment regarding my coworkers. We have great conversations throughout the day and motivate each other to do our best. I also appreciate the opportunities to have training in various areas to have a variety of experiences throughout your work day.

What I wish was different

I am an active person so sitting still for long periods of time can be hard at times. Also, you have to be mentally present to explain information well to students to it can be mentally exhausting talking to people all day.

Advice

If you are skilled at multitasking, you will excel at this job and if you pride yourself on being a thorough person who loves to explain detailed information and really help people achieve their educational goals, you will enjoy this experience. Also, having a background in the educational platforms will make your training experience an easier transition.

Summer RA

May - August 2019 • Lynchburg, VA

What I liked

I liked the freedom to do my job in the hours that I wanted to. I got to work with a small group of people, rather than a large group and I liked that I got to work with the Resident Director on campus. We were also given a lot of free time.

What I wish was different

I wish that we didn't have to do as much manual labor and I wish that there would have been more work to do in general.

Advice

It is what you make of it. You can have a good experience and you can make the most out of it or you can find yourself to be underworked but at the core, it is such a cool experience and I wouldn't take back that summer for anything else.

Student Financial Aid Counselor

May 2018 • Lynchburg, VA

What I liked

The starting pay is nice. I enjoyed the individuals I worked with. Management is very friendly. The job benefits are very nice.

What I wish was different

I wish the job monitored less of your daily time.

Advice

This job is a great transition job if you are new to a college town and need something stable with really good benefits. The job itself is fairly mentally taxing and requires constant focus. The financial office in and of it's self has plenty of room to grow if you are in that field and looking to expand your experience.
