Linamar

Mechanical Engineering Intern

May - August 2019 • Livonia, MI

What I liked

Internship was very hands on. I spent about half of the day at my desk and the other half of the day in the build rooms. Also the work was interesting as it was actual work and not just random meaningless projects. You work directly with other full time engineers and work on projects/parts that will be presented or given to customers.

What I wish was different

There honestly isn't to much that I wish would have been different. My only "complaint" would be that I wish McLaren/Linamar would provide some form of housing as it is hard to find affordable housing in the area.

Advice

Don't be afraid to present your ideas, as your ideas may be the next solution. Just becuase your an intern doesn't mean your supervisors don't want to hear what you have to think. Similarly, if there is something that you wish to learn while your there, don't be afraid to ask as they will gladly teach you.

What I liked

I liked the variety of work that was available to me everyday. Everyone there was very friendly and it was very easy to talk with co worker.

What I wish was different

I wish that the flow of work would have been a little more steady. It seemed as though work came and gone. Some days overtime was required while others you could leave early,

Advice

One piece of advice I have for other students would be get to know your project inside and out.
